How do I know God is real?

Have you or your friends ever asked you the question how do I know that God is real? We should not be afraid of questions like these as Christians but actually embrace them because questions lead to greater understanding.

It's my hope through this article to give you two simple responses to answer this question. There are multiple ways to prove the reality of God but today we will simply focus on two of them.

1. Creation

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” (Psalm 19:1).

When I look at my iPhone I don’t think to myself, “How did this appear?” I know that some genius came up with the idea to create the greatest phone in the world. God bless Steve Jobs! It’s the same when it comes to the world, it did not just appear, it has a creator.

Creation points it's creator. The iPhone points to Apple/Steve Jobs and the world points to God. It takes more faith to believe in the big bang than it does to believe in creation. It’s hard to believe that the big bang lead to us one day holding an iPhone in our hands. The trees that we see, the grass that we walk on, the water that we swim in and the air that we breath all points to their creator - God.

So next time when you go to answer a call on your iPhone & you thank God for Steve Jobs. Remember that creation points it's creator and we know that God is real because we live in a created world and He is the ultimate creator!

2. Jesus Christ

Jesus is not a made up fairy tale, there’s no denying the fact that He lived here on earth. History shows that He lived just like we know Albert Einstein lived. Skeptics and atheists believe that Jesus lived but do not believe that He is God. So the questions boils down to who actually was/is Jesus Christ?

People are happy to believe that Jesus was a good man, a morale teacher with significant influence but are not prepared to say that He was God. So I guess the real question is do we believe that He is God and does his life prove the reality of him being God? When it comes down to the life that Jesus lived He did not leave us any room to not make a decision of what we believe. He was either a liar, lunatic or Lord and we have to make a decision what we believe. When I read the gospels and look at the life He lived I can not say He is a liar or a lunatic, I must say He is Lord.

C.S. Lewis perfectly articulates how Jesus was/is God and proves the reality of God in the following quote:

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”
— C.S. Lewis

These are just two examples to prove the reality of God. All of creation points it's creator and God is the ultimate creator. A decision must be made about the life that Jesus lived. He was either a liar, lunatic or Lord. There are MANY potential responses to the question, "how do I know God is real." I hope that this article would propel you to do your own study and find answers to this question because many people ask this question every single day so we must be equipped to be able to answer it.
