Why I love my mum.
Today is Mother's Day and it would be easy to think, "oh it's just another day on the calendar" but could we take a moment to think about how much our mothers mean to us?
The older I get the more appreciative I am of my mum. When I start to think of all the things she's done for me over the years it’s overwhelming. From the cradle to today, she has done so many thankless tasks and has been my greatest support. I've also been spoilt by having an amazing mother in law too!
Now I understand today can be a tough day for some people and I don't take that lightly. I hope that you can find peace in knowing that you have a dad in heaven who is crazy abut you and will never leave you or let you down.
Here are a few thoughts this mothers day:
1. My mum is selfless.
My whole life my mum has always treated us so well and I've never questioned my mums love for me. I don't take that for granted. Why don’t you start to think about all the little things your mum has done for you over the years. The late nights when we were unwell, driving us to our next footy practice, cooking dinner, cleaning the house, running errands, buying us new school shoes… the list is endless!
Mums are the definition of selfless!
2. My mum showed tough love.
My mum was strict and wasn't afraid to give tough love. Growing up I would get angry at this as I always thought she was being unreasonable. Now I look back and say THANK YOU mum for caring enough to say no. My mum set boundaries and I’m glad she did. My mum protected me from a lot of bad situations I could have easily found myself in. She always looked out for me and wasn't afraid to upset me in the moment as she always had the big picture in mind.
So if you have a strict mum and feel like she is stopping you from having fun, she's actually protecting you. Consistent tough love hurts in the moment but creates a lifetime of thankfulness.
3. My mum taught me life skills.
My mum made me do chores. She made me make my lunch since I was in primary school, wake up religiously at 7:20am for school and save my own money to buy the things I wanted. I thought she was so hard on me. Little did I know that she was preparing me for the real world. She taught me how to work hard, be on time and save money. She set me up to succeed in life. All the little things were teaching me life principals and creating disciplines in my life that I'm now so thankful for!
Mums teach us lots of little lessons that help develop us and set us up to succeed in life!
4. My mum loved me in every season.
When I was 16 my mum had cancer. It was a really tough season for our family. I'll never forget when my mum was weak and fragile she still looked after us, even when we should've been the ones looking after her. I remember one time watching her carry a load of washing and she looked in so much pain yet looked at me and smiled. Even when she was in so much pain, she was always thinking of me.
It would be difficult to be a mum. Mums have their own challenges but always look our for their kids as well. Let’s thank our mums for loving us in every season of life.
Thank you for everything mum
I love you so much. Sorry for being a pain over the years. You had to raise a pretty stubborn, strong willed child but you did it with so much grace.
Thank you for how much you love me. Thank you for showing tough love when I needed it. Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for being my doctor when I was sick. Thank you for being my councillor when I needed a councillor. Thank you for being my career adviser when I needed advise. Thank you for being my alarm clock when I couldn't wake up early as a teenager. Thank you for being the taxi driver to all my footy games. Thank you for being my chef when I needed to eat (and I ate a lot). I could go on all day but THANK YOU!
P.S Thank you Des for being the best mother in law. You cook the BEST chicken curries the world has ever seen. You raised an amazing daughter.
Happy Mothers Day!
Love Josh.
