AN OPEN LETTER TO DONALD TRUMP

Dear Mr President,

Congratulations on becoming the President of the United States of America! I wonder if you ever thought you’d be the President of the USA as a child? Well now you are. So I’m sure you are full of emotions right about now: happiness, shock, joy, relief, worry and excitement. There have been countless news articles, tweets made and opinions shared about you throughout this election. You have been the talking point of homes, restaurants and work places for months now. The whole world is looking at you right now. It’s your turn now, you are the president.

My hope in writing this open letter to you is firstly encourage you, and secondly to remind my friends that the seat you now sit in is not an easy one. Right now there will be people over the moon that you are the president, others not so happy, others pure haters, others thankful that the election is over and lastly, people who just don’t care. The reality is that you are now the president, whether people they like it or not. I’m not American but you becoming the President does affect me as an Aussie. Everyone is now looking to you as a major leader in our world.

Here’s the thing Mr President, I’m sure you are over all the speculative articles written and the hateful and hurtful things said about you online. But I hope this is different to any of them and that this letter finds you well.

Firstly, I want you to know that I am praying for you. It breaks my heart to scroll through social media and see many Christians writing hurtful things about your leadership. People are entitled to their opinions but I know that we as Christians are called to pray for our leaders. Whether people like it or not you are the president of the United States of America and we are called to uplift you in prayer. So I am praying for Godly wisdom to come upon you as you enter into this new season, for the peace of God to rest upon you and for you to have Godly strength and gentleness as you lead your nation. I’m praying that you would lead like Jesus did, serving people. Your job is not easy but I pray that you would put your trust in God and that He would lead and guide you. My prayers for you will be constant and I will be encouraging other Christians to uplift you and all of our leaders up in prayer.

Leadership is not easy at all! The manager at McDonalds, the school teacher, the business owner and the church pastor all feel the weight of responsibility that comes with leadership. I heard it once said that, “The higher the level of leadership, the heavier the weight of responsibility is and the harder the decisions are.” It’s hard to even imagine the weight of responsibility that now rests upon your shoulders! A nation and the world are looking to you as a leader. Only the toughest of decisions come to the Presidents table, if a decision was easy to be made it would be made down the line by someone with less responsibility.

It frustrates me to look on social media and to see so many people share their unfiltered opinions on the election and you as the President. My biggest disappointment is to see so many Christians slandering, disrespecting and judging the election and you as the president. Are moments like these not opportunities to show the love of Christ to others? The easy option is to cast judgment. People can sit on their couch at home, share their opinion on Facebook but at the end of the day what is it going to do? I want to dare them to run for presidency in the next election. This is just my honest opinion. I don’t write this letter to vent frustration but to challenge people to show maturity in all of this.

As the President I hope that you would use this opportunity to leave your mark on the world. Keep focused on making America great and the world a better place. You have your fans and your haters; either way this is your time in history to lead one of the greatest nations in our world. I pray the best for you, your nation and the world.

So I will conclude this letter to you Mr President by once again saying congratulations and that I will be praying for you. The world has just entered into a new chapter in the history books. Keep people as your priority and let’s all look to play a part in making the world a better place. Enjoy the victory and may God bless America.

FOR CHRISTIANS:

Friends, what interesting times the world is in! Some of you may be happy with the new president, maybe some of you are angry or maybe you don’t know what emotion to feel right now. My biggest encouragement to all of us is to pray for the President, he needs it.

The President of the United States will be up for re-election but Jesus is not. Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of all! Jesus will stands as King forever! Our hope is in Jesus alone and not in one man.

As Christians let’s boast in Jesus and be great ambassadors of Him. Light shines brighter in darkness. Show Jesus with your actions and your words. Don’t entertain slanderous conversations but rather show maturity in moments like these. Shine bright for Jesus and be an example to the world. Let the love God lead you through this season.

Thank God for the freedom of countries that allow people to vote. As an Australian I am so grateful that I get to vote for our Prime Minister just like the Americans just voted for their choice in President. But let’s use our freedom for the good of the world. We must keep people as our priority and seek to make the world a better place.

First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered on behalf of all men for kings and ALL THOSE IN AUTHORITY, so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
— 1 Timothy 2:1-3

So in conclusion let's pray, trust Jesus and use our freedom for the good of the world!
