Three reasons why grocery shopping is a game changer
Tonight I was sent to go do grocery shopping by my wife. I used to hate grocery shopping but now I have fallen in love with it. Before you start to think to yourself who is this weirdo let me explain to you why I love grocery shopping:
1. It's Josh time.
I'm naturally an introvert and get refuelled by just being alone. I've found that by taking time to be alone I recharge my batteries and it makes me more effective and productive. So when I go grocery shopping I throw in my headphones listen to an audiobook and I am loving life.
How do you take time to relax and recharge the batteries? Are you like me and need to get away from the world and have some alone time? Maybe it's by reading a book, seeing a friend or watching television. It's important to rest and make time to recharge. If we are running on empty it makes us unproductive in all areas of our lives. Protect your moments to rest and recharge as that will make you effective in all areas in your life.
2. It's a moment to think.
The reason I love grocery shopping is because it's a moment for me to get away from the world, process my thoughts and start to dream a little. While I'm walking around Woolworths I seem to get good ideas. I think I get these ideas as I'm not thinking about my to do list or jobs I need to get done but I allow myself to reflect, dream and think creatively.
When was the last time you stopped and took a moment to dream? We can be so busy rushing from one thing to another but it's important to look up, dream big and think creatively. We must get good at thinking about the bigger picture and getting perspective on everything. Grocery shopping for me is just a simple process that allows me to think big picture.
3. God is with us in the "average" moments of our lives.
We don't have to have the smoke machine, big lights and stylish worship leader to be in God's presence. If we are Christians His presence doesn't leave us and He is always with us. It's important to remember that God is with us when we are cleaning our house, shaving our face, paying our bills and buying the groceries. He is with us in what seems like the very mundane average moments of our lives.
I wonder what He is trying to whisper to you in the average? When you are doing your homework, packing the dishwasher or mowing the lawn. This is why I love grocery shopping that it reminds me of how amazing He is, that He is with me in that very ordinary moment. He does life with us. He is with you. He never left you and I hope that encourages you.
