Two tips to stop trying to impress everyone
How much time do we waste trying to please people? We want people to think we are cool, like what we do, think we are funny and respect us. People show their fancy cars, their "perfect" relationship and how amazing their lives are online. In my opinion this is all done in an effort to impress people. I know at times I catch myself looking for the approval of people. As I've said before if we live for the approval of people we will die by their criticism.
Working for a church is a funny thing as there is absolutely no way to please everyone. The music is either too loud, the lighting is too strong, the preacher isn’t dressed “correctly”, there's not enough worship time, there's not enough connection… the list goes on! I've come to the conclusion that not everyone is going to like the way we do things, they may not even like me and that’s ok!
Pleasing people is exhausting
It's very easy to live out of fear and try to please everyone. We blend in with the crowd and hope that people will like us. Hope that people will like our Instagram feed, the clothes we wear, the coffee we drink and the way we live. I don’t know what it’s like for you, but I’ve tried pleasing people and it’s exhausting!
Let’s give up on trying to please people and just be ourselves. The world doesn’t need more pretenders. There is a generation that craves authenticity and honesty. The world needs you to be you, not someone else. You don't have to live the perfect Instagram life but just live an honest life.

People who live significant lives always have opposition
All throughout history we see individuals who stood up for what they believed in and they always faced opposition. I’m thankful that Martin Luther King Jnr wasn’t trying to impress everyone. I’m thankful that Thomas Edison didn’t stop because he “failed” a few times. Jesus had haters; so don't be shocked if we do. We must live with conviction and have some resilience to us. If we want to do something significant with our lives, opposition will come our way.
Today rather than wasting time trying to please people go after what you feel God is calling you to do. Know that He loves you and that is all that matters!
