Top 10 Books of 2016 that I highly recommend
As the year comes to an end and we take time to reflect upon the year that has been 2016, I thought I'd share my top 10 books that I have read this year. I have fallen madly in love with reading and completed 50 books this year. Reading has never come naturally for me but it's a discipline that I have worked on and now is one of my favourite things to do.
After reading many books this year I thought I would compile my top 10 books that I have read. It was actually a lot more difficult than I thought it would be to compile this list but the books that I have put in this list I absolutely loved and confidently recommend them!
So here are my top 10 books that I had read this year:
The Imperfect Pastor - Zack Eswine
This is by a long shot my favourite book of 2016. My old youth pastor told me it would save my ministry by reading it and he was not wrong! It took such a weight off my shoulders as a young pastor. I can't recommend this book highly enough! If you are a pastor and you don't read this book you are crazy. It honestly changed my life.
Extreme Ownership - Jocko Willink & Leif Babin
Wow! This book gripped me as it shared military stories yet took the leadership principles learned as navy seals and applied them to life outside the military. If you have leadership aspirations or are a leader this is a must read book.
Thoughts for Young men - J.C. Ryle
Every young man must read this book! It is brutally honest but gives great insight into what it's like to be a young man and follow Jesus. It is very short and easy to read but is absolute gold.
Saturate - Jeff Vanderstelt
I couldn't put this book down, literally! The reason I loved this book was because it talked about the importance of saturating our world with Jesus, following Him and understanding that there is more for us as Christians to do than just sitting in a church pew once a week.
A tale of three kings - Gene Edwards
A life changing read, this book had a profound impact on my heart. This book talked about the importance of honouring leadership and was so helpful as we transitioned out of our previous ministry roles into a new season. I am so thankful that I read this book.
E myth - Michael Gerber
An absolute classic, that I wish I had read sooner. Great book for people who want to start a business, are leading an organisation or desire to be in leadership. This book gave me greater clarity around the different roles of leaders in organisations.
7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Stephen Covey
This book had the be the most consistently recommended book to me by people I looked up too. This is a timeless book full of wisdom and is a must read.
Living a Life of Fire - Reinhard Bonnke
If you don't put this book down once you finish it and are not majorly inspired to live a life of faith, I don't know what's wrong with you. Getting an insight into the life of one of my heroes in the faith challenged me and inspired me to get the most out of my life.
the One thing - Gary Keller & Jay papsen
What a great book for productivity and I think I'll read this book once a year. It talks about the importance of focusing on what matters most. This is a simple truth but is very important. If you want to see greater results, I'd recommend this book.
Soul Keeping - John Ortberg
At a difficult season this year I read this book and it was like drinking a glass of water when you're dehydrated. It was such a refreshing read. As you read the book you are continually examining the health of your soul, it was a great help and all christians should read this book!
