Listen to the Kids

"Listen to the kids bro!" Remember those famous words of Kanye West at MTV Video Music Awards? For those of you who don't know what I am talking about Kanye recently won the Video Vanguard Award, also known as the Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout his acceptance speech Kanye kept saying, "Listen to the kids bro!"  He also made a bold declaration that he would run for president in 2020! While I was watching this speech it got me thinking...How often do we NOT listen to the kids? How often do we assume that kids can't change the world?

For far too long young people have been boxed into a corner, led to believe that they have to "grow up" before they can do anything of significance. We often believe the lie that we have to have a degree, thousands of dollars, be really experience and have a good resume before life can truly begin. However, I believe the opposite! I see a rising generation who are willing, able and raring to go! Young people are today's leaders not tomorrows. Let us not neglect this generation.

Here are 3 reasons why I think we should, "listen to the kids bro"

1. God equips who he calls.

Have you ever felt unqualified to do something? Often I will find myself feeling so under qualified and out of my depth. It's a scary feeling! The beautiful thing about God's grace is that if He has called you, He will equip you! You are not doing life alone but you are doing life with Him. The best thing is - It is ok to feel weak! When we are weak He is strong!

My grace is enough; it’s all you need.
My strength comes into its own in your weakness.
— 2 Corinthians 12

2. We are called to live a life of purpose.

Christianity is not meant to be boring, it is meant to be the opposite. I think sometimes we view God as a religious box that we tick off on a Sunday, someone who doesn't really care about our lives. When you read the book of Acts in the bible you see that this is not the case. The disciples lived  a life on purpose. They lived pretty crazy lives and did some amazing things. Plus, they were pretty young when they did it! Life with Jesus is a life on purpose - no matter what your age. You can dream big dreams, you can believe for amazing things and you can dare to do the impossible, because He is with you!

3. There is more for us to do.

The amazing thing about Jesus' message is that it is an inclusive message not exclusive. The bible is full of stories of Jesus using young people to change the world. I believe that Jesus is looking for available young people who He can use to change the status quo.

You may feel like you have done all you can in life but there is more for us to do. It doesn't matter what age you are there is still more for us to do in life. I love how in Kanye's speech he kept saying, "Listen to the kids bro". It implied that you should not just go with the status quo. Think for yourself, ask questions, learn something new; because there is more for us to do. Don't settle for average. While we have oxygen in our lungs God will still continue to use us.

If you are 12, 20, 50 or 80 there is plenty for you to do. Continue to dream, live with purpose and don't go with the status quo.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.
— C. S. Lewis
